Salt
Cay
A tranquil and charming island seemingly stopped in time and one
of the first salt gathering operations in the Caribbean dating back
over 200 years. Located 7 miles southwest of Grand Turk, Salt Cay
is accessible by boat and small aircraft. This tranquil island offers
quiet bays with excellent beaches for swimming, and is a favorite
for its peace and quiet and the usual humpback whale sighting. This
quaint island of Salt Cay (see
Salt Cay map)is a living museum but is sharing the economic
boom that is happening throughout the nation.A groundbreaking ceremony
for the Salt Cay Resort, Spa and Golf Course happened in 2007. The
government of Turks and Caicos has promised Salt Cay further improvements
in its infrastructure such as a $2.500,000 upgrade of its port,
paved roads and a new Airport Terminal Building.
